Ray Montford: BIO
Canadian guitarist/composer Ray Montford soulfully explores life's journeys with his evocative tunes, trademark buttery electric tones and deft acoustic work. With nuance and dynamics, he fuses roots/rock/jazz/world and blues, creating an arresting and visual expression through melody, groove and texture. Featuring some of the country's most renowned musicians, the Ray Montford Group's live shows are best known for their intense and visceral interpretations, their musical spontaneity and for leaving listeners on a 'natural high'.
Montford has released six albums, including his most recent, a fragile balance , available now on CD and 180g premium vinyl.
For more than 10 years he and his group have played to thousands of fans at Toronto's Beaches Jazz Festival. They have toured Europe and shared the stage with the Tony Levin Band (alumnae of Peter Gabriel) and recently sold out the Young Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto. Ray's music is featured regularly on CBC National Radio and he was voted 2007's Instrumentalist to Watch on Galaxie Satellite Radio. Nationally acknowledged for his compositions, recordings and performances, his music is also licensed for film and TV. From 1994-1997, he was the guitar player for Canadian sensations The Rankins, and Gaelic singer Mary Jane Lamond.
A graduate of the acclaimed Music Industry Arts program, Ray is also an accomplished recording/mix/mastering engineer and producer. He operates Soundhole Studio where he blends his love of analogue with digital, offering an uncompromising aesthetic to his clients' projects as well as his own. Ray's recordings are recognized by his peers and amongst audiophiles for their realism and musicality.
