And with Lalo Schifrin, the mix is always right, whether one is talking of his famous film scores, or of his co-productions with such giants of jazz as Dizzy Gillespie and Jimmy Smith. The album Insensatez focuses on Schifrin's writing skills and his brilliance at the piano keyboard. All the works here, even the yearning "Maria" from West Side Story, are filled with the highly varied rhythms of the bossa nova. And the arrangements, too, are absolutely first class: technically sophisticated passages on the upper strings interweave with the piano part which carries the melody to create a truly wonderful sound. This is "easy listening" at it's very best. It goes without saying that Latin music is made for dancing - and not a single minute of this album is an exception. You'll not find a better party record anywhere since there's something for everyone here - for those who just want to sit back and relax, and for those whose feet just can't keep still. It is this mix that makes this album such a winner.
