Emilio Sagi's unusual stage production of Rossini's opera The Barber of Seville unearths the comic aspects of the original work and opts for flashy set design, full of blindingly bright pop color and a circus-like atmosphere, and interpreted by an all-Hispanic cast. The story remains essentially unchanged: Count Almaviva - set on wooing the stunning Rosina - receives assistance from the title character, also known as Figaro. The barber helps Almaviva pull Rosina away from her guardian, Dr. Bartolo). Juan Diego Florez stars as Almaviva, Maria Bayo as Rosina, and Pietro Spagnoli as Figaro.
